At the center of their music has always been the connection between the old and the new. Now, with their fourth album Late Reflections (out April 21, 2023 on City Slang), the German-Swiss musical duo Grandbrothers place their work in relation to an institution that predates their own music by seven centuries: the Cologne Cathedral. The iconic monument of Gothic architecture, UNESCO World Heritage and Germany's most visited landmark served as an unorthodox recording studio for Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel's new album. For the first time in the history of its existence, the cathedral has made its premises available for recordings of this kind. The result is an album with a precise sense of history and architecture, an album that makes the spatial characteristics of this magnificent building part of its hypnotic composition and transforms them into sound.
The sound from the special building in Cologne will be transferred to the Theater des Westens on October 02, 2023, once again giving Grandbrothers the distinction of being a very special and exciting act of the modern era.
Supporting act: Lisa Morgenstern
Working with orchestras and choirs of various sizes, Lisa Morgenstern connects to her classical roots with innovation and enthusiasm as she looks torwards the future.
Lisa Morgenstern will be presenting her new compositions specially arranged for the Canea Quartet and horn player Morris Kliphuis, with whom she released THE WIND TUNNEL SESSION earlier this year. Recently she premiered a full-length concert in that new formation in the middle of an endless desert under a sea of stars and is now bringing that unique program to Berlin, her chosen hometown. With her versatile vocals, modern elements of analog and modular synthesizers, delicate piano and orchestral arrangements, she leads her listeners into an experience of invention, depth and intimacy.
